USGC conducts a pesticide mapping project which has provided innumerable scientists and organizations with essential data to track and understand pesticide use across the country. The Pollinator Stewardship Council has greatly relied on this data and includes mapping images in every presentation.
Originally tracking the annual use of approximately 540 agricultural pesticides, the project has undergone signifant cuts in recent years and was USGS was restructured in 2019 under Trump's administration. Currently, only 70 pesticides are tracked (an 87% reduction). We have recently learned that the future of this project is in further jeopardy with plans for one update in the summer of 2024 and no further plans to continue this critical project. We will keep you updated on available actions to help reinstate this important program.
