An organization whose mission is to remove and rescue bees and provide them with a safe habitat to grow and prosper has suffered catastrophic losses and believes pesticides are to blame. San Diego Bee Sanctuary holds two 15-acre spaces and manages a large number of rescued hives.
Over the course of 24 hours during the last week of September, bees suddenly began dying with an estimated total loss of 80%. Beekeeper Paul Gunn is working with county officials to determine cause of death but believes this to be a classic acute kill from pesticide exposure.
The Pollinator Stewardship Council is dedicated to legal and legislative advocacy efforts to protect the critical work of beekeepers like Paul and to protect pollinators from pesticides. Join or donate to PSC today and help us prevent pollinator losses in the future.
