Campeche Beekeepers Face Losses

Writer's picture: Pollinator Stewardship CouncilPollinator Stewardship Council

Beekeepers in Mexico allege that massive bee losses are due to aerial fumigation of corn, sorghum, and soy at a nearby ranch operated by Bayer-Monsanto.  The ranch is privately owned but currently under loan to Bayer-Monsanto, and beekeepers believe that testing of new agrochemical products is responsible for damage of approximately 2500 hives.  Beekeepers await sample testing results, intending to pursue legal action to recoup losses but hold little hope for future protection.
